Educational Leave - 1st Call
Hello Faculty,
On behalf of the Faculty Development Committee, I am happy to provide the first notice of the competition for 2026-2027 Education Leave. COTR and CORFA are committed to spending this budget allocation to assist faculty to meet their education goals. We had several successful education leave applications last year from Lisa Stemo, Kevin Boehmer and Becky Pelkonen. Currently we have enough money to grant one leave next fiscal year. We will probably not be able to fund another leave after this until 2028.
The funding formula for Education Leave comes from Article 23.5.3 of the Collective agreement:
“Effective April 1 of each year, the College shall contribute annually to the Educational Leave Fund an amount equal to 40% of the total annual salary and benefits paid to a regular full-time employee at the top step of the salary scale. This fund will be administered by the Faculty Development Committee. Any unused monies remaining in the Educational Leave Fund at the conclusion of a fiscal year, will be carried forward to the Educational Leave Fund in the next fiscal year.”
Education Leave is available to undertake a significant education opportunity over an extended period. Regular CORFA members with at least three years of service in a faculty position with the college are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is eligible for funding at eighty percent (80%) of salary for up to one year. Leaves can be a minimum of four months to a maximum of two years in duration.
If you meet this preliminary requirement and are interested in applying, please consult the COTROnline Faculty Development website’s sections: Education Leave Guidelines and Education Leave Application Form as well as College Policy Leaves Without Pay and Collective Agreement Articles 11 and 23. Provided benefits and payroll deduction information is available in the Education Leave Guidelines. Applications require faculty to plan with your Dean, Department Head, and Human Resources.
Education Leave Fund application deadline is November 1st, 2025 with the decision of the Committee to come by December 1st, 2025.
As always, further information is available from myself or any other member of the Faculty Development Committee: Katie Burles, Tara Ramdin, Jeff Quinn, Noelene Terblanche, or Nicola Kaufman.
