Defending post-secondary education, one conversation at a time
Did you know that 50% of college and university students in Canada graduate with debt? And that the average student debt is $25,000?
Or that 1 in 4 students consider quitting because it is just too expensive?
Over the last generation, the cost of university and college has increased even higher than the inflation squeezing the entire country.
As university and college acceptance letters start rolling out, students are getting excited about their futures. But alongside this excitement is anxiety about the mounting unaffordability of post-secondary education.
Students are facing sky-high expenses including:
✓ Rising tuition fees
✓ Rising rents
✓ Rising grocery costs
Almost all Canadians agree that college and university should be affordable.
Chronic underfunding of post-secondary education is adding to the financial strain many Canadian families and individuals already feel. When governments choose not to invest in post-secondary education, students and families pay more.
We can work to change this. Let’s start by getting the word out.
Share the posts with your social media networks and talk to your community about the value of post-secondary education. It’s an easy first step.
Let’s unlock education and the opportunities that come with it by making college and university accessible to everyone—not just those who can afford it.
